Matt received his B.A., with honors, from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California. He is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Education from The University of Texas. A lifelong teacher, he taught in local high schools throughout his undergraduate years and as a professor of record while pursuing his M.A. He went on to teach high school English at regular, honors, and AP levels at one of Los Angeles's top-ranked high schools.
One of Matt’s greatest passions is guiding students through the college application process. He has worked as a private writing coach and application essay consultant for over 10 years, nurturing students' enthusiasm and confidence to become better writers for a lifetime.
Several of Matt’s plays have been produced in the LA area, and one of his screenplays has been turned into a feature film. Matt’s band, The Herms, has released three studio albums, played SXSW, and toured nationwide.
