Sydney Baloue graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in French Studies. After graduation, he pursued public policy research as a German Academic Exchange (DAAD) Scholar and Transatlantic Fellow in Berlin before completing a dual-degree M.A. in Urban Policy at the Paris Institute for Political Studies and an MSc. at the London School of Economics. Sydney’s background in social, racial, and eco-justice policy-based work laid a foundational bedrock for his creative interests. Sydney started his Ph.D. in Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania but realized that storytelling through film and television was more effective in sharing stories and connecting people across continents, cultures, and time. Since then he has worked as a co-executive producer on Legendary (HBOMax) and as a TV writer on HBO and the CW. A voracious traveler, Sydney is fluent in French and proficient in German. He is currently finishing up his first book, which is a memoir/history hybrid story of his transition and the history of New York City’s vibrant ballroom culture and voguing. When Sydney isn’t tutoring, voguing, or working on a TV show or film, you can find him trying out a new recipe, hiking Runyon Canyon, or rooting for the Arsenal F.C., his favorite Premier League team.
